Female Bicyclist Charged after Collision with Auto on Coastal Hwy Near Rehoboth Mall
Update (1 p.m. Saturday): Delaware State Police have charged an 18-year-old woman from Seaford after she crossed into the path of a Volkswagen around 9 p.m. Friday. According to Cpl. Heather Pepper, state police spokeswoman, the 2018 Volkswagen Atlas, driven by a 33-year-old man from Easton, Pa., was traveling south in the right lane on Coastal Highway in the area north of Rehoboth Mall Blvd. The woman was on a bicycle attempting to cross the southbound lanes from the east edge of the roadway, Cpl. Pepper said. She was not in the crosswalk.
She crossed into the path of the Volkswagen and was struck with the right front of the vehicle. The bicyclist was taken to the hospital with an injury to her right leg and was later cited for failure to yield the right of way when crossing outside of a crosswalk, Cpl. Pepper added.
Original post (9 p.m. Friday): The Delaware State Police is investigating a pedestrian struck on the southbound lanes of Coastal Hwy just north of the Rehoboth Mall. It was reported around 9 p.m. Friday. The patient is an approximately 18-year-old woman with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The striking vehicle remained on the scene.
