Woman Injured Following Lewes Car-Bicycle Crash

The Lewes Police Department says they responded to a car versus a bicycle accident that took place on Saturday morning around 11:45 a.m. in the 300 block of East Savannah Road.

The incident happened when a bicycle being ridden by a 61-year-old female from Newark was traveling west on East Savannah Road in the bike lane when she suddenly moved to the left exiting the bike plane and entering the vehicular traffic lane. A car driven by a 57-year-old female from Garnet Valley, Pennsylvania was traveling in the same direction at the same time. The bicyclist struck the front passenger side quarter of the car, causing her to eject from the bicycle to the ground and strike her head on the roadway. She was not wearing a helmet.

Lewes PD, Delaware State Police, EMS and the Lewes Fire Department responded. The bicyclist was transported to Beebe Medical Center then was flow to Christiana Hospital via medevac where she was treated for a Diffuse Axonal head and brain injury. She was subsequently released from the hospital.
