UPDATED: Wicomico Sheriff’s Deputies Investigate Student Death at Elementary School

The Wicomico County Sheriff’s department is investigating a death near the playground at East Salisbury Elementary School.  Officials say this appears to be a student – and looks to be the result of a suicide.  School District officials tell WGMD that the body was found before school so that staff made sure that no students were allowed back in that area, and it was at the rear of the property, so that students couldn’t see it from any classroom.

Wicomico County Public School is informing parents of a very unfortunate incident that occurred prior to the start of the school day. A Wicomico High School student died unexpectedly prior to the start of the school day. The cause of death as has not been confirmed at this time, as the investigation is still ongoing.
Staff members, including counselors and psychologist, are on-site throughout the county to meet with students, both individually and in groups. These services will be available today, tomorrow, and in the days and weeks ahead as needed. Please feel free to contact the school if you would like your son or daughter to speak with a member of our team.
At this time, we are proceeding with a normal school day and our normal dismissal procedures will be followed. All students and staff are safe as we continue with our school day.
