WGMD Fishing Report 9-15-18

Saturday was better than the forecast, but the ocean and bay were still pretty rough.  It doesn’t look like the seas will settle down before next Thursday so it’s going to be a long week.

I took a trip to Cape Henlopen State Park on Saturday afternoon and found the access road to the Navy Crossing closed, but the Herring Point access was open.  I drove up to the Herring Point parking lot and checked out the beach on both sides.  The water was almost up to the dunes on the Navy Crossing side, but still a safe distance away on the Herring Point side.  Even with the access open I only saw a few trucks between Herring Point and Gordon’s Pond.  The surf was pretty rough so I don’t think the fishing was that good.

A stop by the fishing pier at Cape Henlopen State Park revealed a number of cars and trucks in the parking lot.  A call to Lighthouse View Tackle confirmed they saw quite a few anglers and there were some decent fish caught.  Spot on bloodworms, blues on cut bait and flounder on live minnows or mullet.
