WGMD Fishing Report 5-14-21
Friday was an unusual day in that the weather was just about perfect, yet hardly anyone went fishing. I suspect they were like me, getting ready for the opening of black sea bass season on Saturday.
I fully expect an armada of boats to rival the Allied fleet assembled off the coast of France on D-Day. The well-known locations such as the Del-Jersey-Land Reef, will be covered up with boats. I am fishing on the Angler out of Ocean City and we are leaving the dock at 6:00 AM. If I was running my charter or a private boat, I would try to get under way by 4:00 AM.
Then there is the contrary disposition of black sea bass. On more than one occasions I have marked thousands on them under the boat and caught none. One of those occasions was opening day a few years ago.
This year I have a slow-jigging rod and reel from Tsunami and slow jigs from Diawa. I hope to try them first thing in the morning when the largest sea bass should be anxious to bite.
