WGMD Fishing Report 12-1-19

Saturday saw improved weather and I am sure some folks were on the water.  I will have their reports on Sunday.

Still looking ahead to regulations for 2020 and 2021 we could see something never heard of before in Delaware.  A bag limit on croaker and spot.  Croaker do have an eight-inch minimum size while spot have no minimum size, but never before have either species had a bag limit.  As I understand the thinking, the fisheries managers want to try to save some of the stock to see if this will even out the constant cycle of boom and bust for these species.  They don’t plan on having a minimum size for spot because they are so popular as bait, but any type of bag limit is going to cause problems for bait dealers and tackle shops.  Perhaps there will be an exception for them.

The next two years are going to be difficult for saltwater fishermen.  I believe there is an old Chinese curse that says,” May you live in interesting times.”  I believe we will be doing just that.

This is Eric Burnley with your WGMD fishing report.
