Wanted Seaford man charged with assaulting, injuring State Trooper in Laurel

A wanted Seaford man was arrested after police say he assaulted and injured a State Trooper in Laurel.

According to Delaware State Police, around 3:15 p.m., Thursday police responded to a residence in the 11000 block of Taylor Mill Road in Laurel, for an arrest attempt of 42-year-old Burton Carmean, of Seaford, who was wanted for a Violation of Probation issued by the Sussex County Court of Common Pleas along with a failure to appear capias issued by the Kent County Court of Common Pleas.

Carmean was spotted outside when police arrived, at which time he tried to run back inside the home, according to police. Detectives found him hiding in a bedroom.

Carmean resisted arrest and proceeded to charge at an officer, police said. He struck a trooper and was subsequently taken into custody. The trooper sustained minor injury and did not require medical attention.

Carmean was charged with Assault 2nd Injure a Law Enforcement Officer, Resisting Arrest with Force or Violence that Injures Law Enforcement Officer and Menacing. He was arraigned and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $10,200 cash only bond.
