The seventh Navy vessel to be named after the First State was christened Saturday at the Newport News Shipyard in Virginia. Governor John Carney and US Senator Tom Carper were part of the Delaware officials on hand for the ceremony.聽 Dr. Jill Biden is the sponsor of the USS Delaware and did the honors to christen the sub. Two years ago Dr. Biden and her grandson, Hunter, along with Delaware’s Congressional Delegation, took part in the keel-laying ceremony. This weekend’s christening is the next step and was done before the shipbuilders, Naval personnel and the USS Delaware’s future officers, crew and commander.
