A University of Delaware undergraduate student is in jail and has been barred from campus after a dating violence incident occurred this week on campus. Based upon physical evidence and facts available at the scene, both individuals—23-year-old Joshua McCary and a woman, who is also an undergraduate student–were initially charged with third-degree assault, a misdemeanor, according to UD Police. The continued investigation by UDPD rendered forensic evidence that led to dismissal of the charge against the woman and expanded charges for McCary. McCary faces charges of strangulation — a Class D felony — as well as misdemeanors of unlawful imprisonment, aggravated menacing, and third-degree assault. He is currently at Howard Young Correctional Institution in default of bond.  The woman was treated at a local hospital for her injuries and released.
