Unemployment Rising in Delaware

The unemployment rate in Delaware rose two-tenths of a point to 3.7% in October – and in Sussex County – the trend mirrored the state – increasing from 3.4% in September to 3.6% in October.

Unemployment data from the Delaware Current Population Survey shows the share of job losers has increased to 75% of the unemployed from just under 40% a year ago.  Those who voluntarily leave a job and enter the unemployment pool has fallen to under 20% from just over 50% a year ago.  State labor officials say this could be a sign of labor market weakness in the months ahead.
