UPDATE: Ocean City Tram Services Suspended Until Further Notice Following Fatal Collision Involving 2-Year-Old Child
UPDATED 08/21/24: The Town of Ocean City, Maryland has suspended all boardwalk tram services until further notice following the fatal collision involving a 2-year-old child that occurred on Tuesday, August 20th. Ocean City Mayor Rick Meehan, who expressed his deepest condolences on behalf of the Town, says Ocean City is committed to supporting the family and ensuring that everything possible is done to prevent such tragedies in the future. Ocean City police say the 2-year-old boy was crossing the tram pad Tuesday night near Dorchester Street when a southbound tram struck and killed him. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Town is fully cooperating with law enforcement and relevant authorities in their ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Ocean City Police Investigating Fatal Pedestrian Collision
OCEAN CITY, MD – (August 20, 2024): The Ocean City Police Department is currently investigating a fatal pedestrian collision involving an Ocean City Tram that occurred on August 20, 2024, at approximately 8:14 p.m. on the Boardwalk near Dorchester Street.
The pedestrian, a 2-year-old male, was crossing the Boardwalk tram pad near Dorchester Street when he was struck by a southbound tram. Ocean City EMS personnel pronounced the child deceased on the scene. Both Tram conductors remained on the scene.
The Ocean City Traffic Safety Unit is currently investigating the collision. A toddler was critically injured Tuesday night on the Ocean City boardwalk at Dorchester Street.
It happened around 8:13 p.m. Preliminary reports suggest the toddler was crushed by the tram’s tire.
