Talbot County Sheriff Elected as 2023-2024 President for the Maryland Sheriff’s Association
Talbot County Sheriff Joseph Gamble earlier this month was elected as the 2023- 2024 President of the Maryland Sheriffs’ Association (MSA) in a ceremonial passing of the torch from former President, Sheriff Scott Adams of Cecil County. The ceremony took place during the annual Maryland Chiefs of Police Association / Maryland Sheriffs’ Association Professional Development Training Seminar in Ocean City, Maryland.

The Honorable Thomas C. Groton III, Chief Judge for the Worcester County Circuit Court (Retired) conducted the swearing in ceremony. Sheriff Gamble affirmed his oath to uphold the duly elected office of President of the Maryland Sheriff’s Association and pledged to support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution and laws of the State of Maryland.
Sheriff Gamble gave remarks and thanked the men and women in law enforcement and their families for their unwavering sacrifices to ensure safety in our communities. He recognized those men and women fore selflessly giving their time and energy towards protecting all citizens in this State. Further, Sheriff Gamble spoke on the challenges law enforcement members face regarding the untold damage that is being levied upon public safety due to the passage of poor legislation in recent years. He admonished the supporters of the “reform laws” and urged his fellow law enforcement officers to speak the truth to citizens and legislators about these laws and their negative impacts on public safety. Sheriff Gamble pledged to be a voice for the citizens who are paying the price for the new era of criminal justice where criminals are not held accountable and vowed to defend his fellow law enforcement members from unrealistic expectations.
Since 1974, the MSA’s mission is to be “the voice of Maryland’s Sheriffs” and to be “united in the service of protecting Maryland’s citizens and visitors.” MSA is “committed to fostering the effectiveness of the Office of Sheriff through leadership, innovative practices, legislative initiatives, education and training.” MSA membership is comprised of “Sheriffs, executive law enforcement officers from State, local and federal agencies, prosecutors and police legal advisers, members of the Maryland Police Training Commission, private sector security directors and interested citizens. MSA is recognized as the voice of law enforcement advocacy on behalf of Sheriff’s Offices and local law enforcement in Maryland.”
