The Sussex County Council had a light agenda this week. County Administrator Todd Lawson read a proclamation To The Sussex County Association of Realtors naming April as Fair Housing Month in Sussex County.

Mr. Lawson also told the council that Thursday is County Government Day – and high school juniors from Sussex County Boys and Girls State will take over a mock council meeting and run a meeting with County Department heads. This can be watched beginning at 9:30am on the county website – http://sussexcountyde.gov (internet explorer is the best watching option)

County Engineer Hans Medlarz had several items before the council including a lease agreement for Lease Area 2 at the Delaware Coastal Industrial Park. The location is adjacent to Atlantis and was approved by the council with a unanimous vote.

Mr. Medlarz was also questioned by Councilman George Cole about several job vacancies in the engineering department. Medlarz said there are 5 – mainly due to retirement or resignations – including the position of Assistant County Engineer. During Council Comment, Councilman Cole continued with the job openings and spoke with the county administrator about several openings in the Planning & Zoning Department as well. According to the county’s job openings page – they are also looking for a Paramedic 1 in the EMS Department.

There were no public hearings scheduled for the afternoon session. The council meets again at 10am on Tuesday, May 1.
