Sussex Central High School Student Arrested for Possessing Firearm

A 16-year-old Sussex Central High School student is facing a felony weapon charge after Delaware State Police found him with a handgun on school property. The Trooper removed the student from the classroom, searched his backpack, and found an unloaded handgun with accompanying ammunition. The officer confiscated the gun and took the teen into custody without incident. No one was harmed, and the school day proceeded as normal. Meanwhile, the teen is charged with Possession of a Weapon in a Safe School Zone. The student was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 3 and is free on $2,500 unsecured bond. He was also issued a no contact order with the Indian River School District.
