Reports of a suspicious person in the Dogfish Head Brewery this morning caused a response several local and state police departments.

The Milton Police Department responded to a report of a suspicious person within the Dogfish Brewery. Milton Police with the assistance of Lewes Police, Georgetown Police, Delaware State Police and Probation and Parole conducted a search of Dogfish’s shipping building to try and locate the person. As a precaution, the Cape Henlopen School District kept all of its students and staff at Milton Elementary School, HOB Elementary School and Mariner Middle School inside their respective buildings until the situation was cleared.

While an extensive search of the building was being conducted, intelligence gathering was underway and it was determined the person in question was not at the brewery or in the town of Milton at the time of the incident.

“In the interest of public safety and abundant caution, local schools were placed on lock down while the premises of Dogfish Head Brewery were searched and cleared” Milton Police Chief Robert Longo told WGMD.聽 Reports of a suspicious person were unfounded and no arrests made.

Reports on social media reporting a gunman and active shooter were unconfirmed and later proven false.
