Several seriously injured in Bridgeville crash

Several people were seriously injured and have been hospitalized following a crash near Bridgeville.

According to the Delaware State Police Department, the crash occurred around 12:44 p.m., Sunday as a 2014 Volkswagen Jetta was traveling eastbound on Seashore Highway, east of Oak Road.

A 2015 Dodge Ram 3500 pickup, towing a trailer carrying an amusement park ride, was also traveling eastbound on Seashore Highway behind the Jetta. It was at that time that the driver of the Jetta pulled his vehicle onto the eastbound shoulder of Seashore Highway in preparation to make a U-turn.

After coming to a stop, the driver of the Jetta was preparing to make the U-turn at the same time the pickup was approaching the location. As a result, the front of the pickup struck the left side of the Jetta.

The operator of the Jetta, a 26-year-old male from Arlington, Virginia was properly restrained at the time of the crash. He was initially transported to Sussex Bayhealth Hospital and later transferred to the Christiana Hospital with serious injuries.

A front seat passenger in the Jetta, a 25-year-old Staten Island, New York man, was properly restrained during the crash. He was transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center and later transferred to Johns Hopkins Hospital with serious injuries.

A rear seat passenger, a 34-year-old Washington D.C. woman, was not properly restrained. She was transported to Sussex Bayhealth Hospital with serious injuries.

A middle rear seat passenger, a 23-year-old Munster, Indiana woman, was properly restrained. She was transported to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.

A third rear seat passenger in the Jetta, a 25-year-old male from Rockville, Maryland, was properly restrained. He was transported to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital with serious injuries and later transferred to Christiana Hospital.

The operator of the Dodge Ram, a 68-year-old Ocean City, Maryland man, was properly restrained and was not injured in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
