A Seaford man has been arrested for felony shoplifting and other offenses after a traffic stop on Saturday evening. Delaware State Police were called to the Coach Outlet in Rehoboth Beach for a shoplifter and learned that a man entered the store and took numerous handbags from a display table and drove off in a white Dodge Caravan. About 2 hours later troopers spotted the caravan parked at the Valero in Greenwood and contacted the driver. The driver, 34 year old Steven Cornish of Seaford, showed signs of impairment and a 30 year old male passenger was in need of adult support for a mental health diagnoses. Cornish was the designated caretaker for the man. The stolen handbags were found inside the caravan.

Cornish was taken into custody without incident and taken to Troop 5, where he was charged with the following offenses:

  • Shoplifting Over $1,500 (Felony)
  • Reckless Endangering Second Degree
  • Crime Against a Vulnerable Adult (Felony)
  • Driving Under the Influence of Drugs
  • Driving While Suspended or Revoked

Cornish was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $4,500 cash bond.
