Seaford man arrested on drug, weapons charges

A Seaford man was arrested on drug and weapons charges.

According to the Seaford Police Department, the incident occurred shortly before 2 p.m., Saturday officers were patrolling in the area of Clarence Street in Seaford for a suspicious persons complaint.

Officer observed an individual, 27-year-old Devante Townsend, who had an active warrant for his arrest for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle.

Police tried to make contact with Townsend, who fled on foot leading officers on a lengthy foot pursuit. As he was fleeing, police saw him discard an item underneath a parked vehicle.

Townsend was eventually taken into custody after a brief struggle and, once taken into custody, he continued to resist officers by trying to break free from them while handcuffed.

A search of Townsend revealed a large plastic bag containing approximately 53 grams of marijuana and cash believed to be proceeds from illegal drug sales.

The item that Townsend was observed discarding under a parked vehicle was found to be a loaded .357 Magnum Revolver.

Due to prior criminal convictions, Townsend is a person prohibited from possessing firearms.

Townsend was arraigned and committed to the Department of Corrections in lieu of $64,101 cash bail on the drug and firearm charges.
