Seaford Man Arrested for Felony Assault in Rehoboth Beach

A Seaford man is behind bars after Rehoboth Beach Police say he became disorderly and got into a physical altercation.

The incident happened on Sunday morning around 10 a.m. at Grove Park, next to the Rehoboth Beach Museum on Rehoboth Avenue. Police say they responded for a disorderly conduct complaint. Their investigation has uncovered that a victim exited a bathroom when he was confronted by 66-year-old Charles Lecates of Crisfield. Lecates and the victim were familiar with each other from a previous dispute. Lecates struck the victim in the back of the head with a metal cane, causing injury. Lecates was located by officers in the park with the cane and was taken into custody without incident. Lecates was also in possession of a large concealed knife.

Lecates was charged with 1 count of Felony Assault in the Second Degree, 1 count of Felony Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony, 1 count of Possession of a Weapon in a Safe Zone and 1 count of Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon. He was charged with 1 misdemeanor count of Disorderly Conduct.

Lecates was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of 75,500 dollars bond.
