Salisbury University Inaugurates New President
Wednesday served as the official Inauguration of Salisbury University’s new President Dr. Charles Wight, after serving months in the role.
Dr. Wight was inaugurated as the University’s ninth President in a ceremony that included state officials, faculty and students. Notably, the Chancellor of the University System of Maryland Dr. Robert Caret delivered remarks.
In his inaugural address, Dr. Wight discussed the University’s agenda going forward which includes increasing affordability and access to higher education. He said “We need to create this opportunity for every student who is willing to commit to a plan of study, work hard and succeed.” He also discussed creating a culture of inclusion “so that every person not feels welcome at Salisbury University, but also develops a true feeling of belonging at this institution.” He also touched on stewardship and creating partnerships with the community.
Dr. Wight said the previous President, Janet Dudley-Eshbach left the University in great shape, and that his goal is to build on the success during her tenure.
