Salisbury Mayor Jake Day resigns Mayor’s seat after appointment as Secretary of Housing & Community Development by Governor-elect Wes Moore on Tuesday / photo from City’s LiveStream

Tuesday morning Salisbury Mayor was appointed by Maryland Governor-elect Wes Moore as the state’s new Secretary of Housing and Community Development. Day says that the Governor-elect asked and he said yes. At 6pm, Day spoke to Salisbury residents from City Hall to announce his resignation and the new job he would be moving to in Annapolis.

Day’s resignation is effective January 27th and City Council President Jack Heath will take over as the next Mayor of Salisbury.

Day takes over as acting Secretary on Wednesday, however his nomination must still be confirmed by the Maryland State Senate.
