Salisbury Man Sentenced for Attempted Second-Degree Murder and Related Charges
Gary DuPont Jr. has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for Attempted Second Degree Murder, Use of a Firearm in a Crime of Violence, and Illegal Possession of a Regulated Firearm. Ten years of his sentence are a mandatory sentence, without the possibility of parole. Gary DuPont Jr. will be placed on five years of supervised probation upon his eventual release. The sentencing stems from an incident that occurred on December 27th, 2021, at the Dollar General Store on North Salisbury Boulevard where according to the Office of the State’s Attorney for Wicomico County, DuPont shot the female victim once in the abdomen as she attempted to take his photograph to give to law enforcement. DuPont then fled the scene, disposing of his handgun as he did so. The victim underwent emergency surgery at Tidal Health Hospital and survived her wound. Agents of the United States Marshals Service arrested DuPont in early April, 2022.
