UPDATED: Route 24 Crash Leaves PA Driver Dead

UPDATED – 11/19/21 11am – Delaware State Police have identified the name of the driver who died in a crash on Tuesday November 16, 2021, on John J. Williams Highway (SR24), as 37-year-old聽Julio Mendoza-Carcamo聽of Port Royal, Pennsylvania.

The Delaware State Police Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into the crash. Anyone with information regarding the incident or may have witnessed the collision should contact Master Corporal K. Argo by calling 302-703-3264 .

A crash west of Lewes on Route 24 Tuesday morning has left one person dead. Delaware State Police say just before 9am a Chrysler operated by a 37 year old Pennsylvania man was westbound on Route 24 near Mulberry Knoll Road when for an unknown reason his car went into the shoulder and struck numerous traffic barrels – then crossed into the eastbound lane into the path of a Escalade, driven by a 42 year old Salisbury man. The Escalade driver tried to avoid the crash, but collided with the Chrysler nearly head on. The driver of the Chrysler was not properly restrained – he was pronounced dead at Beebe Healthcare. The driver of the Escalade was properly restrained and reported no injuries.

Police say the driver of the Chrysler was reported by numerous witnesses as driving erratically and going the wrong way on Coastal Highway before turning onto Route 24. The investigation is continuing.
