UPDATED: Route 1 Crash Leaves 5 Dead, 4 Injured Friday Afternoon Near Townsend

UPDATED – Sun 7:15am – A crash on Route 1 north of Smyrna Friday afternoon left 5 people dead and 4 injured.  Delaware State Police say a pickup truck driven by 44 year old Alvin Hubbard of East New Market was southbound when he crossed the center median and struck a car driven by a 24 year old Pennsylvania man and a mini van driven by 61 year old Audie Trinidad of Teaneck, New Jersey.  Trinidad and his 4 daughters, aged 20, 17 and 13 year old twins, were killed in the crash.  His 53 year old wife, the other two drivers and a passenger in the pickup were all treated at area hospitals for non-life threatening injuries.  The crash remains under investigation.

Five people are dead, 4 injured after a three vehicle crash on Route 1 south of Odessa just before 4 Friday afternoon.  Delaware State Police continue to investigate but say a southbound pickup truck crossed the center median – striking a car and then colliding with a mini van, which carried a family from New Jersey.  The driver – a 61year old man from Teaneck who was properly restrained, his four daughters – aged 20, 17 and two 13 year olds who were not properly restrained were pronounced dead at the scene.  His 53 year old wife was also properly restrained, the driver of the car, a 24 year old from Pennsylvania and the driver of the pickup truck – a 44 year old man from East New Market and his 30 year old passenger from Hurlock were taken to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.
