UPDATED – 8pm – Three people received minor injuries after a crash on Route 1 south of the Indian River Inlet Bridge. Delaware State Police say just before 4pm a pickup truck driven by a Selbyville man made a U-turn into the southbound lane. Another pickup driven by 23 year old James Windle of Newark was speeding and rear-ended the other truck. Both vehicles overturned. Both drivers and a passenger in Windle’s truck were all wearing seat belts – all three taken to Beebe Medical Center and treated for minor injuries. Windle is charged with DUI and following too close.

===================================================

Just after 4pm, Bethany Beach emergency personnel were called for a rollover crash on Route 1 just south of the Indian River Inlet Bridge in the area of Pelican’s Way. Initial calls were for two helicopters to respond – and extraction needed for patients. The helos were cancelled and additional ambulances were requested – patients taken to area hospitals by ground transportation. The crash was on the southbound side of Route 1 – but affected traffic in both directions as fire police tried to alternate one lane of traffic on the northbound side to keep things moving, however southbound traffic at its worst was backed up through Dewey Beach. Emergency personnel cleared the scene at 5:45 and reopened all southbound lanes to traffic. It took about 30 minutes for the backup to clear.
