All new motorcycle riders in Delaware will be required to wear a helmet for the first two years after receiving their endorsement, under a new law signed by Governor John Carney. Rep. Short joined Gov. John Carney in his Legislative Hall office on Friday for the ceremonial signing of the new law. Senate Bill 86 was sponsored by State Senator Dave Sokola and Representative Danny Short. Rep. Short, who has more than 30 years of experience as a first responder, says he has been on the scene of countless motorcycle accidents and is an avid rider himself. He has witnessed the life-saving benefits of wearing a helmet firsthand. DelDOT statistics show that 25%聽of serious injuries and fatal accidents聽among Delaware licensed motorcycle riders occur within their first two years of operating a bike.
