Rehoboth man arrested after he attacked, strangled ex-girlfriend, police say
A Rehoboth man was arrested after police say he attacked his ex-girlfriend, strangling her outside her apartment in Burton Village.
According to the Delaware State Police Department, the incident occurred around 3:40 a.m., Monday as troopers were dispatched to the 37000 block of Burton Village Avenue, for a report of an assault.
Troopers arrived and met with a 30-year-old female victim who said she was walking back to her residence from the dumpster area when her ex-boyfriend, 41-year-old Tyshi Hazzard, of Rehoboth Beach, approached and attacked her.
The victim reported that she was struck by Hazzard several times and strangled, according to police. She was transported to a local area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Hazzard, who is currently on a ban list for the Burton Village Community, fled the scene prior to the arrival of police. He was located a short time later hiding under a nearby mobile home.
Hazzard was taken into custody and charged with Assault Second Degree, Strangulation, Resisting Arrest, and Criminal Trespass Third Degree. He was arraigned and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $5,1001 cash only bond.
