Police investigating attempted robbery at Frederica liquor store

Delaware State Police are investigating an attempted robbery at a liquor store in Frederica.

According to the Delaware State Police Department, the incident occurred around 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 5, as troopers responded to the JC Liquor Mart on Old Beach Road in Frederica, for reports of a robbery.

Troopers arrived and met with a 71-year-old male employee who said the suspect entered the store wearing a ski mask.

The employee immediately confronted the suspect when the suspect displayed what appeared to be a handgun.

The suspect then proceeded to strike the victim with the handgun, at which time the suspect and victim engaged in a tussle.

The suspect fled the area on foot without obtaining any money or merchandise.

The victim sustained minor injury and declined medical treatment.

The suspect was described as an African American man, approximately 6’02’’ tall and at least 200 lbs. He was wearing a ski mask, gloves, a dark green puffy winter jacket with fur lining on the hood and jean pants.
