Police chase leads to drug, weapons charges for Harrington man
A Harrington man was arrested on drug and weapons charges after police say they found over 97 bags of heroin after he led them on chase through downtown Dover.
According to the Dover Police Department, just before 2 a.m., Tuesday officers tried to stop a car for a traffic violation but the driver, 44-year-old George Jones, failed to stop and tried to elude police.
Jones drove into a nearby alley and struck a garage and a parked vehicle. He then got out of his car and tried to run but was apprehended.
A search of the car led to the discovery of a .40 caliber handgun over 9 grams of crack cocaine, more than 47 grams of marijuana, and 97 bags of heroin and a digital scale.
Jones was arrested and charged with Possession of Firearm by Person Prohibited, Possession of Marijuana, Possession With Intent to Deliver Heroin, Possession with Intent to Deliver Crack Cocaine, Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of a Firearm with Obliterated Serial Number, Carry Concealed Deadly Weapon, Criminal Mischief (3x), Resisting Arrest, and multiple traffic offenses. He was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $32,800 cash bond.
