Petty crimes fall, violent crimes rise in Ocean City

Ocean City Police department releasing their annual crime statistics. Last year overall crime fell 13% compared to the previous 5 year average, with burglaries dropping 36%.
However, Violent crimes, including robbery and aggravated assaults increased substantially, and reports of forcible rapes jumped 125%.
As could be expected, the bulk of the crimes occurred during summer months, with 60% of crimes occurring in June, July, and August. In total, Officers responded to over 77,000 calls for service in 2017. Read the full report here.
