OCPD Warns Residents, Business Owners of Counterfeit Currency
The Ocean City Police Department is warning residents, business owners and employees to remain vigilant for counterfeit currency being circulated in and around Ocean City.
Officers say in the past week they have received two reports of counterfeit currency, including several counterfeit 100 dollar bills. The bills are marked as play money with some having Chinese writing on them. The OCPD encourages the public to look carefully at money being exchanged, especially when receiving a 100 dollar bill for a small purchase. Business owners are also warned that counterfeit detection pens can often generate false results.
In addition, the Federal Reserve Board offers the following tips: Feel the paper because genuine currency has a unique feel, tilt the note back and forth to observe the color shifting ink and to check the watermark and security thread by holding it up to a light.
