Punkin’ Chunkin’ will be leaving its Delaware home and will be moving to Rantoul, Illinois. A vote by team captains on Monday was an overwhelming 70% to 30% approval for the change of venue – the 4th since 1986 – the first time out of Delaware. However Punkin’ Chunkin’ officials say that with so many other Chunk-related events, there needs to be a World Championship.

On the Punkin’ Chunkin’ website they give their thanks – “We want to thank everyone for their support over the years. Most recently, we want to thank those that came forward in Delaware and Maryland in trying to keep the event on Delmarva. Unfortunately, our unique event requires large tracts of land. The Wheatley鈥檚 600-acre property in Bridgeville, Delaware has served us well to date. We are very supportive of the land owner鈥檚 decision to not continue to host the event.”

The new Illinois location will be a the former Chanute Air Force Base and the Chunk is being planned for the first weekend in November.
