Motorcycle Rider Serious after Crash With Street Sweeper

A motorcycle driver is in serious condition after a crash Thursday just after 9pm at the intersection of Routes 5 and 24 near Long Neck. Delaware State Police continue to investigate, but say a sweeper truck was approaching the intersection when a 43 year old Snow Hill man on a motorcycle tried to turn left – into the path of the sweeper. The rider was ejected from the motorcycle and was taken to Beebe Medical Center and then to Christiana Hospital. He was wearing a helmet, however police believe alcohol is a factor on his part. The driver of the sweeper was properly restrained and not injured.
