Two people were killed when a motorcycle lost control and crashed near Dover.

According to the Delaware State Police Department, the incident occurred shortly before 6:30 p.m. Sunday, as a 2001 Suzuki Katana 600 motorcycle was traveling eastbound on Voshells Mill Star Hill Road east of Burton Drive in front of the Star Hill Elementary School.

The motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed and failed to negotiate a slight left curve, according to police, at which time it traveled off the south-edge of the road and struck a concrete curb.

The motorcycle continued eastbound through a grass area in front of the school before striking a tree and ejecting both the operator and a passenger.

The driver, 19-year-old Brendon M. Harden, was not wearing a helmet or any type of protective clothing at the time of the crash, police said. He did not have a motorcycle endorsement license and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The passenger, 20-year-old Kiarra A. Hickman, was also not wearing a helmet or any type of protective clothing, according to police. She was also pronounced dead at the scene.

Voshells Mill Star Hill Road was closed for over three hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

The crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.
