Milton Residents Approve 3 Water Systems Improvements
Residents of Milton have overwhelmingly approved three water systems improvements. A vote to replace aging water mains under Carey, Walnut, Magnolia and Mill Streets and Bay Avenue was approved with 567 votes for and 41 against.
Improvements at the Chandler Street Water Treatment Facility were approved by a vote of 558 to 46.
A new water tower on Federal Street was approved 513 to 92. The Town will borrow $6.2-million from the State of Delaware’s Drinking Water State Revolving Fund for these projects.
- Water main replacements – $1,785,000
- Chandler Street Water Treatment Facility – $579,000
- Federal Street Water Tower replacement – $3,850,000
The Mayor and Town Council proposed to borrow an amount of money not to exceed $6,214,000 to fund the three water system projects.
The funding comes from the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund. The DWSRF project qualified for a 20-year period at an annual 2% interest rate once construction is complete. The Town is required to pay semi-annual interest-only payments during construction.
