Md. Man Pleads Guilty To Child Porn Charges
A Caroline County man has pled guilty to possession of child pornography.
According to the US Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland, 47-year-old Daniel Provencal entered his plea Thursday.
Prosecutors said Provencal acknowledged he was on supervised release at the time for a 2006 federal conviction for distribution of child pornography.
Provencal, according to the US Attorney, possessed and repeatedly distributed child pornography on a social media provider, using several electronic devices and user names, between January and October 2020. He faces more than ten years in federal prison when sentenced.
The US Attorney’s Office said CyberTyps came in to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in January 2020 reporting that two usernames had uploaded child pornography, and that the IP address used to log in to eachof the accounts was the same and was assigned to Provencal at his residence in Denton.
A search warrant was executed at Provencal’s home in October 2020, recovering two cellphones, numerous micro SD cards, a laptop computer, notebook computer and three tablets. A piece of paper with 26 account usernames and passwords was also seized. A forensic review of the devices revealed they each contained child pornography.
