Massey’s Ditch Dredging Expected to Begin in November
Dredging for Massey’s Ditch is expected to begin by November. DNREC officials say the contractor will begin mobilizing to the project site on November 1st – with dredging to begin shortly after that. Massey’s Ditch connects the Rehoboth Bay and Indian River Bay. The dredging window runs from November 1 to March 1, 2020.
Throughout the summer, boaters have been advised that during low tide Baker’s Channel is very shallow. The entrance to Baker’s Channel in the Rehoboth Bay is part of the scheduled Massey’s Ditch dredging project that will begin in November.
The project was initially bid earlier this year, but DNREC did not receive an acceptable bid. The Massey’s Ditch Channel Maintenance Dredging Project was rebid in May – four bids were received at the second bid opening. DNREC and their engineering consultant for the project, Moffatt & Nichol of Baltimore, Md., accepted the bid of $3.6 million offered by J.F. Brennan of La Crosse, Wisc. J.F. Brennan was awarded the project in July.
