Lewes woman arrested, charged with assaulting police
A Lewes-area burglary has resulted in the arrest of a woman who police say assaulted two Delaware State Police troopers.
According to the Delaware State Police Department, the incident occurred around 11:30 a.m., Wednesday troopers were dispatched to a home in the 30000 block of Regatta Bay Boulevard in Lewes.
The owner of the home reported that her daughter, 35-year-old Megan Barczak had forced her way inside the residence and started damaging items.
Troopers made contact with Barczak and while attempting to place her in handcuffs, she proceeded to strike the Trooper, according to police.
A brief struggle ensued when a second trooper assisted and also began to struggle with Barczak. She was subsequently taken into custody without further incident.
The troopers involved sustained minor injuries and did not require medical attention.
Barczak was charged with Assault 2nd injure a Law Enforcement Officer, Resisting Arrest with Force or Violence, Offensive Touching of Law Enforcement Officer, Disorderly Conduct, Burglary Second Degree, and Criminal Mischief. She was arraigned and committed to the Delores J. Baylor Women鈥檚 Correctional Institution on $24,000 secured bond.
