Lewes To Require Fire Sprinklers In New Homes
Lewes City Council is being praised for approving a requirement that all new homes be equipped with fire sprinklers.
The fire suppression system requirement will become part of the City of Lewes building code. It applies to single-family homes as well as townhomes and apartment complexes.
Paul Eichler of the Delaware Fire Sprinkler Coalition said Lewes has taken positive steps to reduce fire damage in the city, as well as to protect its first responders. He added that Newark has had a similar requirement since 2002.

If a homebuyer or homeowner is concerned about cost, Eichler said there could be homeowners’ insurance discounts available.
