Laurel’s Central Ave Bridge Remains Closed into the Summer
June 21, 2019
Bad news for Laurel drivers – the Central Avenue Bridge will remain closed until later this summer. The ongoing rehabilitation project is complex and has required more work than initially planned. The bridge, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was last rehabbed in 1992. It was closed for work in May of last year – was expected to reopen in January, but was delayed by the sturgeon migration. The current completion date of June 28 will not be met – and DelDOT will begin to assess a penalty to the contractors of $1060 each day until the bridge is reopened.
