Keller Hopkins Files for Sussex County Council 5th District Seat
Keller R. Hopkins of Georgetown and lifelong Delawarean has filed as the Republican candidate for the newly created 5th Sussex County Council District. Mr. Hopkins and his wife of 38 years Joann have seven children and six beautiful granddaughters.
Mr. Hopkins is a small businessman who specializes in the installation of underground utilities. His office is located in Bridgeville where he has successively operated for 35 years.
Mr. Hopkins has served on the Planning Commission where he has championed reasonable growth and has been a vocal opponent of sprawl into our farm lands. He said “we need to aggressively encourage growth around our municipalities and along our major highways and stop the practice of allowing sprawl into our farm lands. We need proactive development management. The current practice by the current 5th District Councilman of rubber-stamping sprawl doesn’t work and needs to stop now.”
The incumbent 5th District Councilman has voted to raise taxes on our small businesses and citizens a number of times in his short tenure on County Council. Mr. Hopkins said “Sussex County has tremendous tax revenue with large surpluses and there is absolutely no reason to vote for tax increases. The incumbent has raised our taxes over the past two years at a time when the revenue is not needed. I will never support or vote to raise the taxes of the people of Sussex County.”
Mr. Hopkins is running to represent all the people of the 5th District which is situate in the center of Sussex County and runs from Milton south to Millsboro and east/west from Rt 1 to west of Georgetown.
