JTVCC C Building to be Demolished
July 16, 2018
C-Building at the Vaughn Correctional Center – the site of an inmate uprising and death of Correctional Officer Lt Steven Floyd – will be torn down. The building is a constant reminder of what happened on February 1st, 2017. DOC Commissioner Perry Phelps says that demolishing C-Building will ‘demonstrate that JTVCC is moving forward and cultivating a new culture for the future.” The building has been vacant since February 2nd, 2017 – and the inmates housed there have been moved to other correctional facilities – many of them out of state. Demolition is expected to begin in the fall – funding was approved in the FY 2019 Bond Bill.
