Update: Bethany Meadows Townhome Fire Was Accidental

A fire that damaged four townhomes east of Frankford has been ruled accidental.
According to the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office, discarded smoking materials started Wednesday afternoon’s fire on Beechwood Court in Bethany Meadows.
Members of the Millville Fire Company were joined by numerous other fire personnel from Sussex and Worcester Counties.
The fire started on the exterior of one unit and spread.
One occupant at the townhome got out safely.
Damage is estimated at $500,000.

An investigation is underway into a fire that heavily damaged several townhouses on Beachwood Court at Bethany Meadows east of Frankford. Millville Firefighters were called to the scene around 2:30pm and found smoke and flames coming from the middle of the row of townhome units. Firefighters from Sussex and Worcester Counties helped to battle the blaze for over 3 hours. The home was occupied when the fire broke out – the occupant escaped safely. Investigators from the State Fire Marshal’s office have determined that the fire began on the outside of unit 39, but the investigation is continuing. Damage is estimated at $500,000.
