Inmate Involved in JTV Riot Dies in Prison

Corrections officials say a 30 year old inmate at the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution died last week.  Kelly Gibbs was serving a 24 year, nine month sentence for 2^nd degree Murder and other offenses.  Earlier last week he pleaded guilty to charges of Riot, Kidnapping and Conspiracy in relation to the February 2017 riot at James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in Smyrna. Sentencing was pending. The Delaware State Police continue to investigate the incident. Gibbs’ body was turned over to the State Division of Forensic Science, as is standard procedure.   Foul play is not suspected.
