Incident at SCI Shows COs Still Understaffed
An incident last Friday at the Sussex Correctional Institution in Georgetown highlights the continued staffing and resource problems facing the state’s prisons. A statement from President of the Corrections Officers Association of Delaware, Geoff Klopp says after an inmate became disorderly inside his cell two officers who responded were assaulted by the prisoner who Klopp says not only struck the officers but bit them, drawing blood.
Klopp says in a statement, “We expect Corrections Officers to work miracles with hand-me-downs. How can we protect the officers, the community and the incarcerated when we are terribly understaffed, completely underfunded, underpaid, and under-appreciated by the political leaders of our state.” Klopp adds the union wants to work with those state leaders to solve those many problems
