Downtown Salisbury’s skyline is set to see a major change in the coming year, as the construction of a high-rise apartment building takes place.

Mayor Jake Day says it’s the city’s responsibly to take on projects like this that expand and bring new housing downtown. The Mayor says blueprints are being finalized and the goal is to built it fast so it can open by next year.

“The Ross” will be a twelve story high rise apartment building, catering to Salisbury University student. Billed as “Luxury Student Living”, the building will not be starting from scratch. The first three stories will actually be that of the historic I.O.O.F. building, constructed on East Main Street in Downtown Salisbury in the early 1920’s.

According the the developer, the new project will be built nearly 100 years after the original structure. The Ross website says the project is devised to maintain the historical integrity of the original structure, although contemporary design will be prominently showcased in the new addition.

The tower will be the tallest structure in Salisbury, and one of the tallest on the entire Eastern Shore of Maryland. It will have views of the Wicomico River and Downtown Salisbury, as well as access to the nearby parking garage, Downtown Plaza and relatively close proximity to Salisbury University.
