Governor Hogan, Mayor Meehan to Hold Summer Kickoff Ceremony in Ocean City
Maryland Governor Larry Hogan and Ocean City Mayor Rick Meehan will gather along the beach on Friday to hold a ceremonial kickoff to the Summer season.
The ceremonial kickoff to Summer was formerly an event taking place annually more than seven decades ago. In 1946, Governor Harry O’Connor joined Mayor Daniel Trimper Jr. to start the summer season by placing an umbrella in the sand. Now, nearly 75 years later, Governor Hogan and Mayor Meehan will reestablish the tradition.
The event will take place this Friday at 11 a.m. at Somerset Street and the Beach. During the event, the Governor and Mayor will provide remarks about the significance of the event and discuss upcoming events and other highlights for vacationers this year. The men will be joined by members of the Ocean City Council.
