Gov. Hogan Seeks To “Re-fund Police” With $150-M Investment
Maryland Governor Larry Hogan has proposed a $150-million investment that will, in his words, re- fund the police.
Hogan said Friday the proposal would provide more resources for law enforcement to fight violent crime.
“Trying to reduce crime by defunding the police is dangerous, radical, far-left lunacy,” Hogan said. “The reality is that our police are underfunded and under attack. To reverse the tide of rising crime, we need to stop demonizing and sabotaging the dedicated men and women who risk their lives every single day to keep the rest of us safe. We cannot defund the police, we need to re-fund the police.”
The “far left lunacy” comment drew a sharp response from Democratic House speaker Adrienne Jones, D-Baltimore County. She said the governor’s words are beneath the dignity of his office and do nothing to move the debate over law enforcement reform forward . She called for more bi-partisan discussions about the issue.
