Gov Carney Announces Major Child Care Investments & Initiatives
Child care policies are a priority for Governor John Carney this year – as he stated in his State of the State address last week. Today the Governor announced his administration’s priorities and investments for child care for the coming year which will support, enhance and expand child care quality and access. This includes investing over $10-million to increase Purchase of Care rates as well as expanding applicant eligibility, double funding for the Early Childhood Assistance Program and allocate funding for House Bill 33 to lower preschool special ed student-teacher ratios. And an $8-million federal Preschool Development Grant will help Delaware be innovative in strengthening early childhood infrastructure. Governor Carney will announce his full proposed FY 2024 budget Thursday afternoon at 2pm.
