Georgetown Man Sentenced for Rape and Murder
June 21, 2019
A man living at a Georgetown home who beat and raped a woman living in the home and killed another man will spend the next 67 years in prison. In 2016 Juan Tovar Cruz returned to the home on Wilson Hill Road where he’d just started living a week earlier and threatened the woman who lived there, tied her up and raped her multiple times – in front of her 2 year old child. The victim was able to escape to a neighbor to call police. When police arrived they found a man in the driveway who’d been beaten to death with a hammer. In January, Tovar Cruz, who is now 25, pleaded guilty to 2nd degree murder, 1st and 2nd degree rape and other offenses and was sentenced this week in Superior Court.
